Episode 4 - 02-10-2008

Hey fans,

Another episode and another bunch of tapes flipped.

This week F.T.T looked at the phenominal new thursday/Envy split EP, a surprise shock release for 2008 that really has blown away all expectations.   Both bands have delivered stand-out tracks and the EP itself can be arguably viewed as one of the best post-hardcore releases for 2008.

It will be out on CD/VINYL (together, you can't pick it up seperately) on November 4, but some webstores out there are selling pre-order special edition copies which are well worth snapping up.

This baby's probably going to be on my forthcoming top 10 releases of the year,  I highly recommend it.

looking forward into the programming, flip.the.tape will be joined by several guests in the coming weeks both international and local.  Stay tuned to this blog for more information.

Next week will see an interview with Tim Melville of Bear.HIDE! Tapes, a DIY label/distro based in melbourne.   Tim Will be in to talk about Bear.HIDE!'s second release as well as their launch party at the Espy on the 10th of October (there may even be tickets to win!),

Well kids! late updates are better than none.

this week saw the on-air review of the spectacular new 6 track EP by melbourne's The Diamond Sea.  

The Diamond Sea - Slow Signal EP

A true diamond in the rough,  Slow Signal, the debut EP from Melbourne band the Diamond Sea is a frenticly paced celebration of indie-rock.  

Stand out track "safekeeping" plays like a long-lost sleater-kinney b-side.  Dual vocals shout and sing together in unison over angular guitar riffs that weave their way through the track.  

Slow Signal is a sign of things to come from a promising, upcoming melbourne band who have a tight, refined sound.

Keep a watchful eye out for them.

PRO: even the instrumental tracks hold their own weight. Strong, punchy indie-rock.  a must own for fans of 2000-2002 era pretty girls make graves and sleater-kinney. 

CON: there's only six tracks here.
